Donaldson Community Welfare Trust

In an effort to contribute to community welfare, Donaldson Coal has committed $250,000 over five years on educational needs, community works or other activities of benefit to the community within the Abel Underground Mine Area. Funds will be distributed at the discretion of a Community Welfare Trust.

Application for Support from the Donaldson Community Welfare Trust

• The Donaldson Community Welfare Trust (CWT) is a charitable trust which will contribute approximately $250,000 over 5 years towards supporting the local Community within the Abel underground mine area. The objective of the trust is to promote “the educational needs” of this Community, or “Community works”, or “other works or activities” of Community benefit.
• The trustees have decided to conduct two application rounds each year, which will close at 5pm on the third Friday of April and October (each year). They have also decided to allocate a minimum of $10,000 each round to “educational projects” linked to Black Hill School. Consequently, every six months approximately $15,000 will be made available for other projects of benefit to the community within the Abel underground mine area. If no suitable projects are identified in a given round, the funds will be retained for future rounds.
• You do not have to be a resident or member of a community group within the affected area to apply for project support, but the proposed project or activity must have the potential to benefit the designated Community. In general terms, projects with a primarily environmental objective will receive a lower priority (because they are likely to be more appropriate for the Donaldson Conservation Trust). Community projects with a social, welfare, health/safety, educational or historical component are more likely to receive support, especially projects with some form of “in kind” or financial support from other agencies. Within nine (9) months of receiving support from the Donaldson CWT, we would appreciate a brief written report describing the stage of progress achieved and how the funds were spent.
