Company Overview

Donaldson Coal was established in 1996 and has coal mining operations in the Hunter Valley, New South Wales, located approximately 25km from the Port of Newcastle.

The company’s focus is on mining quality thermal and coking coals for the export market. Export marketing is managed through the global network of the Noble Group, one of the world’s largest commodity trading companies and owner of Donaldson Coal.

Over 350 people are currently employed to operate the company’s open-cut and underground mines.

Donaldson Coal works closely with the community, government and other stakeholders to manage environmental other impacts. Operating mines and projects at stages from feasibility to full-scale production for more than a decade, the company is gearing up for major expansion.

Donaldson Coal is also a foundation investor in Newcastle Coal Infrastructure Group (NCIG), the consortium responsible for the construction and operation of the Port of Newcastle’s third coal export terminal.

Stage One of the export terminal has recently commenced operations, with further expansion of the facility being considered because of strong export demand. At full capacity, the new coal terminal operation on Kooragang Island will significantly increase the export capacity of the Hunter Valley coal chain to around 140 million tonnes a year.
